In todays Gazette comes this response from Becky Jordan, and I cant blame her. No one REALLY knows what happened in this case, and yet the Press to this day tries to make Corbet out as some kind of victim.
Teacher was fired for more than hot dogs
Editor:
This letter is in response to The Charleston Gazette continually writing editorials on the suspension and then the firing of Pete Corbett, former assistant principal at George Washington High School.
Personnel issues have never been open to the media or the public in general. However, the Gazette continues to assume they know what has happened in this personnel situation, in part based upon Pete Corbett's statements, without having all the information. Editorials are written without full knowledge on the writer's part of all the aspects of the issue, which is fundamentally unfair to those being written about in editorials and is extremely unfair to the readers of The Charleston Gazette who are not afforded a full disclosure of facts.
Mr. Corbett was not fired simply for grilling hot dogs, as The Charleston Gazette has reported. Last spring, there was a closed hearing by an impartial hearing examiner. After all the evidence was submitted and sworn testimony was taken, a decision was issued by the hearing examiner as to what she recommended should occur with Mr. Corbett's employment based upon the evidence, which was followed by the Kanawha County Board of Education.
Citizens who read the editorial in the Gazette need to be aware and have the right to know that there is more to the story that cannot be told, because of personnel laws and procedures.
If Mr. Corbett consents and authorizes the disclosure of all evidence relied upon by the independent hearing examiner and ultimate decision of the hearing examiner, the Kanawha County Board of Education is more than willing to provide all information to The Charleston Gazette, so that the public has full disclosure of facts.
I would recommend that The Charleston Gazette contact Mr. Corbett to determine if he will consent and authorize the disclosure of all evidence relating to the decision regarding his employment.
Becky Jordon, president ... Kanawha County School Board
I'm glad she wrote that letter because if YOU knew what really happened, you wouldn't like it.
