Lets try a laser light show instead of fireworks!

Postby Jerry on Mon Dec 08, 2008 8:12 am

As much as I enjoy fireworks, if you've seen one... you've pretty much seen them all. One of the biggest hassles is the shutting down of the city anywhere near... and even beyond, the fireworks themselves. Fireworks, even simple ones are expensive and you have a finite amount of time to shoot them off.

We normally have two fireworks shows a year in Charleston: 4th of July and after the Regatta. (altho there might not be another Regatta). I'd like to see one of those shows changed to a laser light show just once, to see how it looks. Many cities are now using laser instead of fireworks. If the show is as (or more) impressive as fireworks, I'd be all for it.

Here's a reply I received today concerning my inquiry into a laser light show to one company who provides them:

Hi Jerry,

Thank you for your email regarding our Laser Show Spectaculars. And thank you for the photo link that you sent-- that is a GREAT help to our design team. Based-on the photo, it appears as your event has an amphitheater on the water along with local vessels on the river/lake.

We have many options to explore: Many of our clients have begun migrating their Fireworks Shows to a hybrid of pyro/lasers shows as well as fully-automated laser and effects shows. Naturally, eliminating pyrotechnics is a much "greener" decision.

Regarding costs: As you know, Fireworks displays costs a lot of money, however, the difference between Fireworks vs. an Effects Show is the fact that an "Effects Spectacular" is able to offer more, longer as well as have the ability to repeat the show multiple times per night vs. pyro shells [although, very beautiful, it is very costly and cannot be repeated without incurring significant costs].

Your venue [in the photo] appears beautiful and versatile to a pyro-alternative. RPI can provide a large, outdoor, laser-light and multi-media spectacular coupled with over-the-top, illuminated water features that appear from the river, including a massive 60-foot water screen that features high-resolution video images all choreographed to a customized musical score! The bottom line is a bigger, longer-lasting, repeatable show with higher ROI for the local city. In addition, we offer sponsorship/marketing packages that allow your sponsor's logos/messages to be incorporated into the show as well as feature their "brand" in Laser-Light!

I will send our promo materials/videos in a separate email for you and your team to review. We prides ourselves on fully-customized, turnkey entertainment solutions for our clients. We handle everything from conception of the project to marketing/PR through local logistics/permits and final implementation of the production.

Please kindly provide us with the specs of the event area, dates, budget range, etc. and we will put together a customized proposal with multiple show options that fit within your budget range.

Looking forward to bringing our Magic to your special event! :-)

Cheers, Image
Jeremy

Here's a video showing how sponsors could be incorporated into the show. I think they'd line-up for the chance:

Great idea.

Jerry, have you approached anyone with the city about this? Check your PM's.

Seems like a "no brainer" to try this, but, then again we are talking about Charleston. :)

I haven't gone to a fireworks display here in probably 3 or 4 years because of what you said, it's always the same thing, but I would definitely come see this.
