Our Streets In Nitro

Postby LollyPop on Mon Feb 02, 2009 12:01 pm

Concerned Citizens of Nitro need a place to make their bad street known. Today after the snow melted I drove thru 8 streets of the 11 streets in Brookhaven.
Everytime I bring up the subject of Brookhaven Streets it is always said that it will take Millions to redue the Streets. Well, what about just the repair work instead of every street being redone.
On Brookhaven Drive there are 67 slabs that need replaced.
On Brookhaven Circle there are 15 slabs that need to be replaced
On Fairview Dr. there are 37 slabs that need replaced
On Norwood Road there are 34 slabs that need replaced
On Rockledge Road there are 53 Slabs that need replaced
On Brentwood Road there are 32 Slabbs that need replaced
On Barrington Road there are 15 Slabs that need to be replaced
On Brentwood Circle there are 8 Slabs that need to be replaced.
That makes a total of 261 Slabs that need replaced and that is not even 1/8 of the entire slabs in Brookhaven
Our subdivision was statred back in 1961
When we were brought into the city of Nitro our Streets looked good and our tax money also looked good to the City.
Now work needs to be done. Grants need to be acquired. Grant money for road improvement in Nitro is needed badly.
Nitro homeowners are suffering from road flaws in Nitro. These problems need to be addresses and action needs to be done before law suits start from accidents.
Does anyone else in Nitro want to add a street that needs repaired. This is your chance to speak out before all the money is gone. We should be able to get some of this work completed.
We got 6 slabs done last year in Brookhaven that I'm aware of. How many can we rely on a year for the next 5 years of this Levy and be able to count on those slabs? If only the worse ones are gotten done yearly that will be a beginning but we deserve to have some answers.

That is BS! Fix the city streets that house businesses, schools and public buildings FIRST.

Fred, you'd think any man would want his streets to be well kept and safe for his children to be on daily. You'd think a man would want the improvements he'd been promised for his hard earned money that he worked for to be done correctly.
Your ways of thinking is not acceptable for the conditions and patients we have had to put up with in Brookhaven.
I drove up and down the Streets from 39th Street to 22nd street and 2nd Ave. There are some pot holes. I saw pot holes on 31st, 32nd, 35, 36, 39th and 39 East Street. None were any worse than Brookhaven Streets.
We have never said we want it all redone. We want our share of work on the bad parts. I have never said it was all bad.
I gave the count of slabs.
I went back and counted every slab on Brookhaven Drive. There are approx. 353 Slabs with 67 that need replaced. I also went up Rockledge and there are approx. 140 slabs and 53 of them need replaced. Rockledge was put in back in the 1990's. Brookhaven Dr. was finished way before that. Apparently the concrete on Rockledge was not as good a grade from the way it looks. My Street on Fairview was finished building on in 1967.
You know when I started in Real Estate back in the late 70's and for about 15 years after that, very seldom was there any new code changes, contract changes, etc. After about 1992 you could expect new codes to be updated several times a year. Nitro could have had a code for roads, like what kind of concrete was used, what kind of reinforcement was used, etc. Was anything like that ever put in force. If not why not...DAH....Well, maybe something is being learned. Something like consequences. We all live and learn by our mistakes and we all have to pay for them.
Maybe Nitro needs to get more involved by putting out a stricter code for any new roads put in Nitro.
I'm not asking for your BS Freddie, I'm asking for Nitro to do what they have promised with out money and not spend it on anything more till out town has taken care of the matters at hand.
