Talk about Gasoline prices, and the higher costs of living here

Just as nature doesn't change as fast as the environmentalists want, the market doesn't change as fast as the socialists want.

Since environmentalists/socialists can't control either, they desire to control us.

dmb wrote:Ok, then if all the consumers demanded these vehicles (keep in mind these vehicles were demanded when the price of gas was still $1.39), and the free hand of the market gave it to them, then the free market didn't work so well did it?

Every time gas went high, consumers demanded more fuel efficient cars. This meant SMALLER cars. And what did Detroit give them? JUNK! That's what! Think PINTO! Think Corvair! Think Chevette! Think Gremlin! Think Maverick! Think VEGA for Gods sake!

Then... gas stabilized and the economy strengthened. All of a sudden everyone was back to the big cars again because that's all they could trust.

THEN, people started buying smaller Japanese cars because they were built MUCH better. Only one little problem: Americans wanted BIGGER Japanese cars and so the Japanese built them! That was a loss in gas mileage right there, but we didn't mind because we could still afford the gas.

The Japanese can build a lot more fuel efficient cars (and do) but WE wont buy them. Why? Because we've been fed a bill of goods about BIG vehicles being much SAFER than small ones! So it's been a climb to the top to see who could drive the biggest SUVs. If everyone had turned to smaller cars to START with... we'd all have an "even chance" on the highways. Safety is not about big or small... it's about the difference in SIZE. For instance, a Hummer is STILL no match for a tractor trailer! So what are you going to do now... buy a tractor trailer? (Some idiots have actually bought tractor trailer pickups).

So stop with the excuses about "what the people want". People are FICKLE AS HELL! This year they want 50 miles to the gallon and next year they want Hummers!

I will give up my 52 inch television, my ATV, my cell phone and my high speed internet when all of the welfare recipients do. But I as long as they can have all this stuff and remain on welfare and have all the extras then I am going to have them also.

Besides if they would cut off some of these dead-beats who haven't even looked for a job in the last 6 months they could lower taxes somewhere else to off set the rise in fuel and gas prices.

House passes bill to sue OPEC over oil prices

And the price of oil went up $9 a barrel overnight!

What a bunch of sorry clowns. They couldn't operate a gas station.

Jerry,

There are a lot of people that can't "Suck it up" They are sucked out.
Our state is now a service job's state. Low paying jobs. Just getting to work 5 days a week cost them a good percentage of their take home pay.
When Wal-Mart is the largest employer other than the people working for the state. We are in trouble. Wal-Mart is low paying as is working for the state.

Just because it is easy for you to "suck it up" there are many out there that can't

If our do nothing Congress had come through with their promises made in the early 70's to reduce our dependancy on Foreign Oil, we would not be in this siituation today.
If our present Congress would quit bickering and do something, by 2013 and 2018 we could tell Opec to go pound salt.

Yet we keep putting these idiots back in office.

Again, I'm glad you are sucking it up as am I. Just remember a lot of our population can not do so.

Now stop your whining, and suck it up like Europe has for decades.
