In this mornings paper the results for the Levy were a far cry different from the results in the 2008 election when it was voted down.
Hopefully this Levy money will now be spent for road repair, the senior citizens, the Library can stay open as usual, street lights won't be turned off, etc.
As far as Street repairs are concerned, the Money that Brookhaven has donated to the Levy in the last 41 years, that I've lived here, well, last year we did get about six slabs replaced of which two were done on my Street, Fairview Dr., and the rest was done on Norwood Rd. I can now drive safely on one side of my street. These were only a few of the problems on these streets in Brookhaven. On Fairview along there are many more slabs that need replaced due to the water washing out from under the streets. It will take more than 6 slabs to correct that one problem alone. Many more slabs remain on Norwood Rd. also. These problems are getting worse with every rain. Can you imagine what they look like after this past snow. None of this includes the other strees in Brookhaven.
Then what about Bailes Dr., which is the only Street in Nitro that has a 2 in. water line. Will this problem ever get solved in our life time or will the new Fire Shed get started and the safety of our Firemen that have to put out fires on Bailes still be at risk.
I voted no for the levy and will never vote yes again until I can see our Levy money being spent for the actual reason it is meant for.
Nitro had to really work this time for a yes vote. I hope they show the Good People of Nitro that they mean to pay the bills and put the money where it belongs-- On Street Repair, keeping the Pool open for our children, for Senior Citizen projects, and keeping the Nitro lights aglow, and give Bailes Dr. the attention they need on the water lines, before they start anything new. I hope you pay these bills as quickly as you get out and pass out Donuts on the street....LOL
We all hope that Nitro will do the right things with this Levy money. Once the Good People of Nitro can see results of their hard earned money then Nitro will be able to heal and come closer together.
Last year Nitro came to Brookhaven and cut back a few trees that were across the road on Norwood Rd. I made a point to go over to City Hall and Thank them for this much needed work, but hopefully more work like this can be done in Nitro. With the trees falling everywhere in Nitro, and the power going off three times last week, I lost a micro wave and 2 TV tubes blew out. The power company said it was due to limbs falling on the lines. My street on Fairview was hit hard with power going off. Can more work like this be continually updated. Apparently not enough has been done to keep the trees away from the lines. Across the Street from my home are a couple lots that are not taken care of by the owners and the trees are over the lines now. They are young trees but ones that are leaning and will be causing future problems. Since they are now over the lines my husband can't take the responsibility for blowing more lines down.
Years ago I remember the City doing this work yearly.
